Whispers of the Subway

It was late at night when Sarah found herself alone at the subway station. The usual hustle and bustle had long since vanished, leaving only the eerie hum of the fluorescent lights and the distant rumble of trains passing through. She was tired after a long day at work and just wanted to get home.

As she waited on the platform, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. She glanced around, but there was no one else in sight. It was just her and the endless stretch of empty tracks. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as she heard a faint whisper, barely audible over the hum of the lights. It seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once.

"It's just the wind," she told herself, but the subway station was underground; there shouldn't have been any wind. The whisper grew louder, more distinct, and it was definitely a voice. A woman's voice, pleading, crying out for help. Sarah's heart raced as she tried to locate the source of the sound, but it seemed to shift and move, never staying in one place for long.

Then, a figure appeared at the end of the platform. It was a woman, dressed in tattered clothes, her face gaunt and pale. Sarah could see the fear in her eyes, the desperation etched into her features. The woman opened her mouth to speak, but instead of words, that same whispering sound poured out, echoing through the station.

Sarah took a step back, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to help, but something told her that this was not a woman of the living. The ghostly figure reached out towards her, the whispers growing louder, more insistent. Sarah turned and ran, her footsteps echoing through the empty station as she fled towards the exit.

She never looked back, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she burst out onto the street above. The world seemed so much brighter, so much more real after the darkness of the subway. But as she walked away, she couldn't shake the feeling that the whispers were still following her, a chilling reminder of the urban legends that lurk just beneath the surface of the city.
